Perfection

There is nothing perfect. And it is not a big issue.

The big issue is always trying to pretend that everything is perfect.

All pretend they are perfect. Or sometimes, all pretend that they are in a perfectly bad situation. Its the same.

On the other hand, we can't forego the pursuit of perfection, or excellence. In the worst case, we are donkeys and it is a carrot hanging in front of our noses. Gets things done and all.

The biggest thing, in my opinion is to remember that
1. Perfection is a long term thing, not the next thing I am to do.
2. The only perfect thing to do right now is to do something.
3. Procrastinating for the perfect moment/thing/task is worse than the not-so-perfect I have right now.
4. As long as I am in a better position than yesterday/last week/last month etc., I am doing fine.

There was a book I read a few years back, called To Kill a Mockingbird. It was about racial tolerance in an American town. Not exactly related to what I tried to put up here, the children's dad (the lawyer and shooter, Atticus) said something like this:
Courage is when you know you are licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what.

  1. Your views on perfection coincide well with what is possible and productive. I suspect any definition of absolute perfection is bound to be imperfect.

  2. Perfection won't be attained in much, so away we must go, that much i know. Great quote too at your zoo

    1. Yes. If we can't get to Jupiter, it should not stop us from trying and going to the Moon at least. I know, not the best analogy :-)

  3. You're right in saying that perfection cannot be attained. But I also think that it's good to strive for the best that we can be or the best that things can be. Even if we can't find perfection, we can find what's perfect "for us" and that's really what matters in the end.

    1. You are right. What I am saying is that the quest for perfection should not paralyze us. Some people get old while waiting for the perfect life partner. I think at some point we all have to make a judgement while differentiating between what is needed and what is available. Of course, the perfection of that judgement is a question in itself.

  4. Nice post! I am reminded of actress Priyanka Chopra's statement that I read in TOI today morning. She says " Basically, I am born perfect'. i think she really needs a bump or two so that she can come down to reality.

I just loved this book. The movie based on this book is also nice.

    1. I only read the book and found it informative and thought provoking. As far as the actress is concerned, who are we underlings to say something about rather perfect people?

    2. I think Ms Chopra was probably right; we are all born perfect, it's just a downhill path from then on!

    3. No, I have thought along these lines, and I have also thought about the I am perfect for myself thing. Neither applies here. The most important 'clue' of arrogance is that she is a celebrity, and these guys speak anything and everything. I am sure her sound bytes at different times will be contradictory.

That being said, great job thinking over the context, Cro.

  5. Nice Post. IMO Perfection is like a mirage, we see it (or pretend) from far distance but when we are closer to attain perfection it goes away. So rather going for perfection we should emphasis on refining our previous efforts.

  6. Your 3rd point meant more to me, if people won't procrastinate then everything will be good :) You summed it up nicely. Crispy and Short KK :)

    1. I too think that mostly a wrong decision is better than a late decision. But mostly, not always.

    1. If we all assume we are imperfect, we will all be humble and the world will be a better place.

  9. Nobody is perfect. That is why we have "delete" commands and pencil erasers.

    1. The problem is that even after deleting and erasing, we all would like to start with a clean slate and go for perfection.

  10. The only perfect thing to do right now is to do something. < We always have to remember this!

And about the veg-food... I already was vegetarian. But where I live never have veg-food :/ and my parents didn't like this. Now I usually eat chicken or fish. Meat I can't... Well, I think when I'll live alone or with my future husband, I won't eat meat anymore...

    1. I think we have to paste the do something to the wall.

It is kind of sad to be in a place that does not have a lot of veg food. But if you don't have any religious or health reasons for being vegetarian then I would say just enjoy the experience. I know some people who would eat only non-veg all the time if they could.

    2. My parents didn't like when I was vegetarian, but I'm healthy because I eat a lot of vegetables and fruits all the time! I know one day I will back to be veg! And also, I I have allergies to lactose, so, I can't eat chocolate, pizza, pasta, cheese ): so... It's more easy!

And about the dentist... When I was a kid, the day wore braces for the first time, my dentist said: "You cannot eat candies anymore!" And I had a looot of candies at home... Well, I ate :b

    1. And being perfect is to just acknowledge your imperfection.

  12. Yes, perfection for the sake of perfection is like excess. It is always bad.
