The best advertisements

(I have no idea of what advertising is or how it works, so feel free to enlighten me.)

I just saw this Havells wires advertisement, the tiger vs dragon one.  "वो fire  है, तो मैं wire है!" Could have been funnier in Punjabi.

Till the end I was not sure what product the advertisement was for. More importantly, I did not care.

The product at the end was just a happy coincidence. The coincidence part made sure the product wasn't forced.

Now I might be biased due to any number of things, or this one advertisement might have been too good to cater to the "rules", but this is what advertisements should be like.

Any idiot can go around screaming about their product, but that does not give the consumer any value. (Consumer here is the person watching the advertisement, since the advertisement itself is the product here.)

What are some of your favourite advertisements?

  1. Advertisements are all geared to make you feel a certain way, if they pull it off, they've done their job. So much goes into them that it isn't funny.

    1. Not funny at all. It is all science and surveys and analytics.

  2. I don't pay much attention to advertisements. Same with commercials on tv which to me are the same thing.

  3. Advertisements are subliminal. In other words, they are designed to influence the viewer unconsciously. Our brain has picked up the message even if we have not. I will give you one example. Have you seen the logo for Amazon.Com? There is an arrow below the word Amazon. The arrow starts at “A” and ends at “Z”. Your brain has already picked up Amazon sells everything from A to Z.

    1. This feels very odd. On the one hand, we have been had for by the advertisers. On the other hand, what were we expecting all along?

  4. Seemingly, adverts on TV work very well. Unlike people with people with a healthy scepticism abour most things in life. Advertised products are always more expenive than their unadvertised counterparts.

I use a Canon 80D + 400mm lens for bird photography. Thanks for your kind words.

    1. A Canon 80D seems a bit too costly for me at the moment. I think I need to work on my skills with the phone for now :-)

  5. Yup ... ads that are too direct and in your face and push the products USPs down our throats can be off putting.

    1. Yes. Such ads, by telling too early, take away the joy of discovering from us.
